وهي تبكي وتنشرُ المنديلا
She bade me farewell beside the ships in the late afternoon,
She bid me farewell at the ship
While she wept and unfolded her handkerchief.
Weeping and waving her handkerchief

في جبيني ما أشبَهَ القنديلا
And on her face was a yellowish pallor, of which there lingered
And on her face a yellowness that cast
On my brow something resembling a lamp.
A candlelight upon my forehead

Then she extended her right hand and showed me
Then she stretched out her right hand and showed me
A dewy lily that breathed fragrance in the groves.
A lily that exhaled its scent in the thicket by night

So I took a kiss as provision from a right hand
So I took a kiss from a right hand
That taught me to give many kisses.
That taught me to give many a kiss
