أنجمَعُShall we gather شملناour scattered company دراًpearls بسلكِon a thread
أنجمَعُ شملنا دراً بسلكِ
ونفتكُand strike down بالعِدىagainst the foes فتكاًslaughter بفتكِfor slaughter
ونفتكُ بالعِدى فتكاً بفتكِ
Shall we reunite like pearls strung on a thread,
Let us unite and intertwine willingly
And strike down the foes, slaughter for slaughter,
And destroy the enemy with utter destruction
ونرجعُand restore دولةًa state نبكيwe weep عليهاover it
ونرجعُ دولةً نبكي عليها
فقدfor indeed طالَhas grown long الزمانُtime ونحنُwhile we نبكيweep
فقد طالَ الزمانُ ونحنُ نبكي
And restore a state over which we weep?
And restore a state for which we weep
For time has dragged on while we weep.
For time has been long as we weep

O daughter of Syria, shed tears until
The rights of sovereignty are restored to your kin.
Your rights to rule are restored

Muawiya the Great bestowed a throne upon you;
Muawiya the Great wove you a throne
I fear for it—the Romans after the Turks.
I fear Rome after he is gone
