قُلsay للفرنجةِto the Franks بعدafter حكمٍrule جائرِunjust
قُل للفرنجةِ بعد حكمٍ جائرِ
هَلdo…? تسمحونَyou permit بنظرةٍa look للزائرِfor the visitor
هَل تسمحونَ بنظرةٍ للزائرِ
Say to the Franks, after unjust rule:
Tell the Franks, after their unjust rule,
Will you allow the visitor a look?
Will you allow a look from the visitor?
وإذاand when مررتَyou pass علىby الجزائرِAlgeria قلsay لهاto her
وإذا مررتَ على الجزائرِ قل لها
هلاwhy not…? ذكرتِyou recalled بلاءَvalor عبدAbd (servant of) القادرal-Qadir (the All-Powerful)
هلا ذكرتِ بلاءَ عبد القادر
And when you pass by Algeria, say to her:
And if you pass by Algiers, tell it,
Why have you not recalled Abd al-Qadir's valor?
Why not mention the affliction of Abdelkader?
ذيّالِكَthat very البطلُthe hero احتميتِyou took refuge بسيفهِwith his sword
ذيّالِكَ البطلُ احتميتِ بسيفهِ
والرعبُand terror فيin قلبِthe heart العدوِّthe enemy الغادرtreacherous
والرعبُ في قلبِ العدوِّ الغادر
That very hero—you found protection in his sword,
That hero, who took refuge with his sword,
And terror lay in the treacherous enemy's heart.
And terror was in the heart of the treacherous enemy,
إنif كنتِyou are ساليةًforgetful فسخطُthen the wrath of محمَّدٍMuhammad
إن كنتِ ساليةً فسخطُ محمَّدٍ
أوor كنتِyou are صابرةًpatient فحلمُthen the forbearance of العاذرthe forgiving one
أو كنتِ صابرةً فحلمُ العاذر
If you are forgetful, then Muhammad's wrath;
If you were defiant, then the wrath of Muhammad,
Or, if you are patient, the forgiving one's forbearance.
Or if you were patient, then the forebearance of the Chaste,
دوميremain علىupon عهدِthe covenant العروبةِArabhood والهُدىand right guidance
دومي على عهدِ العروبةِ والهُدى
وثِقيand trust بقهّارٍin a mighty vanquisher لجيشِof the army القاهرthe conqueror
وثِقي بقهّارٍ لجيشِ القاهر
Remain true to the covenant of Arabhood and right guidance,
Always keep the covenant of Arabism and guidance,
And trust in a mighty vanquisher of the conqueror's army.
And trust in the All-Powerful of the victorious army,
وتذكريand remember الشهداءَthe martyrs فيin الحربِthe war التيthat
وتذكري الشهداءَ في الحربِ التي
ذهبتwent away بكلِّwith every مجاهدٍfighter ومغاورand raider
ذهبت بكلِّ مجاهدٍ ومغاور
And remember the martyrs in the war that
And remember the martyrs in the war that
Carried off every fighter and raider.
Took every mujahid and cave dweller,
فاذاso if أضَعتِyou squander منfrom النبيِّthe Prophet أمانةًa trust
فاذا أضَعتِ من النبيِّ أمانةً
ماذاwhat يلاقيfaces مؤمنٌa believer منfrom كافرِan unbeliever
ماذا يلاقي مؤمنٌ من كافرِ
So if you squander a trust from the Prophet,
So if you lost the Prophet's trust,
What will a believer face from an unbeliever?
What would a believer meet from an infidel?
