O reaper of the crops, lay down the rope and sickle.

The sun has set, and the curtains of darkness are drawn.

And God has blessed what you do, O farmer.

So say, when the bell's ringing delights us:

How great is the universe, O my Lord, and how beautiful!

Stillness has settled over the forests and hills.

And the birds have returned to their nests and thickets.

And the soul has yearned for dreams in the darkness.

So return to the hut and sit among your children.

And sleep free of sorrows and regret.

If you knew what time makes me suffer,

And the horrors and ordeals I endure,

You would weep for one far away, without a home,

Who longs for Lebanon, while fate keeps him

From returning—oh, how I long for my homeland!
