ياO مصرُEgypt فيكِin you النيلthe Nile والأهرامُand the pyramids
يا مصرُ فيكِ النيل والأهرامُ
فيهاin them الفراعنةُthe pharaohs العظامgreat نيامasleep
فيها الفراعنةُ العظام نيام
O Egypt, within you are the Nile and the pyramids.
O Egypt, within you lies the Nile and pyramids
Within them the great pharaohs lie asleep.
Where the great Pharaohs lie dormant
وعلىand upon أبيfather of الهولِterror الرموزُthe symbols كثيرةٌmany
وعلى أبي الهولِ الرموزُ كثيرةٌ
فكأنهُso, as though it were رصدٌa sentinel عليكِover you مقامstationed
فكأنهُ رصدٌ عليكِ مقام
And upon the Sphinx are many symbols,
And upon the Sphinx many symbols
So it is like a sentinel stationed over you.
As if keeping watch over you
رمسيسُRamses منهُfrom it إليكِtoward you ينظرُgazes ساهراًkeeping vigil
رمسيسُ منهُ إليكِ ينظرُ ساهراً
وأمامَهُand before him الإكليلُthe crown والصَّمصامand the keen-edged sword
وأمامَهُ الإكليلُ والصَّمصام
From it Ramses gazes toward you, keeping vigil,
Ramses looks upon you sleeplessly
And before him are the crown and the keen-edged sword.
With a crown and double crown upon his head
فإلىso toward الخلائفِthe caliphs والفراعنةِand the pharaohs انظُريlook
فإلى الخلائفِ والفراعنةِ انظُري
أطيافُهُمtheir shades أبداًforever لهاto her إلمامvisitation
أطيافُهُم أبداً لها إلمام
So look toward the caliphs and the pharaohs;
Look to the successors and Pharaohs
Their shades forever visit her.
Their spirits forever guided
وخُذيand take منfrom القرآنِthe Quran حصناًa fortress تحتَهُbeneath it
وخُذي من القرآنِ حصناً تحتَهُ
تتضاءَلُdwindle الأهرامُthe pyramids والأحرامand the sanctuaries
تتضاءَلُ الأهرامُ والأحرام
And take from the Quran a fortress beneath which
And take from the Quran a fortress beneath which
The pyramids and sanctuaries dwindle.
The pyramids and temples seem small
لاno سورَwall حَولَaround حِماكِyour protected domain إلاexcept سورةٌa surah (Quranic chapter)
لا سورَ حَولَ حِماكِ إلا سورةٌ
ياO أمةًa nation قدindeed صانهاhas protected her الإسلامIslam
يا أمةً قد صانها الإسلام
No wall surrounds your domain save a surah,
No walls around your protection but a surah
O nation that Islam has indeed protected!
O nation protected by Islam
أرضُland of الحضارةِcivilization والعروبةِand Arab identity والهُدىand guidance
أرضُ الحضارةِ والعروبةِ والهُدى
فيهاin it علاgained ascendancy الكفَّارُthe unbelievers والأعجامand the non-Arabs
فيها علا الكفَّارُ والأعجام
The land of civilization, Arab identity, and guidance—
Land of civilization, Arabness, and guidance
Within it, the unbelievers and non-Arabs have gained ascendancy.
