For twenty years, love withered in my heart.

So I said sadly, “The chick has died in its nest.”

And this pledge has neither condition nor annulment.

I am an Arab who loves al-Sham as his homeland.

And al-Rusafa and al-Karkh may captivate him.

For how often has exile erased the love of home!

But this love cannot be erased.
