كأزهارٍlike blossoms تطيرُfly علىon الرياحِthe winds
My heart took flight in love for beauties,
My heart took flight in love of the sailor
Like blossoms flying on the winds.
Like flowers flying on the winds

And I delight in melodies and poetry,
And I have joy for melodies and poetry
And waters, basil, and wine.
And rivers and basil and comfort
وأعشقُand I adore فيin الطبيعةِnature كلَّevery حسنٍbeauty

And in nature I adore every beauty
And I love in nature all beauty
That appeared in the morning and in the evening.
Appearing in the morning and evening
وكلُّand all الحسنِbeauty عنديto me حسنُthe beauty of خودٍa lovely maiden
حصانِchaste الدرعِthe gown مقلاقِloosely swaying الوشاحthe sash
And all beauty, to me, is a maiden's beauty,
And all beauty to me is the beauty of the gazelle
Chaste beneath her gown, her sash swaying loose.
The horse of the coat the stirrup of the strap
ترينيshe shows me الحسنَbeauty أجمَعَin its entirety فيin محيَّاًa face

She shows me all beauty in a face
It shows me the beauty all gathered in the cheek
Whose cheerful radiance is like the light of morning.
Its radiance like the lights of morning
عَذابيmy torment والعذوبةُand sweetness فيin هواهاlove for her
وقدand perhaps يرتاحُfinds solace قلبيmy heart فيin الجِراحwounds
My torment and sweetness lie in loving her,
My torment and sweetness in his love
And my heart may find solace in wounds.
And my heart may find comfort in the wounds
كعصفورٍlike a sparrow رأىsaw شرَكاًa snare وحبّاًand grain
فلذَّso it was sweet لهُto it التعلّقُbeing caught بالجناحby the wing
Like a sparrow that saw a snare and grain,
Like a bird who saw a mate and love
And so found delight in being caught by the wing.
So it clung to it with its wing
ودونَand before الماءِthe water كمhow many ألقىI encounter شَفيراًa brink
فلاyet not أرتدُّI turn back عنfrom وردِgoing to drink القراحpure water
And how many a brink I face before reaching water,
And below the water how I let out a murmur
Yet I do not turn back from drinking pure water.
But I do not retreat from the rose of wounds
