My anguish for a land where the Italians are!

They wreaked havoc, with neither faith nor judge.

They raided its people's homes, and their watchword

above the cross was treachery and aggression.

How can we find solace for Tripoli, where

the horsemen were martyred in her defense?

If it is said, 'There is no homeland there, nor love

for a young man of Syria,' I say, 'It is faith.'

Indeed, the young Arab remembers his people,

and a place is loved for its inhabitants' sake.

He always sees their homelands as his own,

and in his eyes they are all brothers.

If a young man's homeland is not held dear,

then China and Japan are dearer to him than it.
