If you have mercy on your cheeks,

Lower the veils and conceal your eyes.

And do you not see how the lovers raced one another

And fell wounded at your feet?

And their eyes are like bees in our gardens,

And their hearts are a swarm hovering over you.

Remembrance of you stirred only a waft of fragrance

That lingered on my palms from yours.

    ليتَ الزفيرَ يرنُّ في أُذنيك

    The rustlings of your hem echo within my ribs;

If only my sigh would ring in your ears!

Oh, how delightful what I received from you—and how delightful

What the flowers received from your breasts!

If I say, “O sleeplessness, sicken her eyelids,”

    Sickness gives your eyelids strength.

Or if I say, “O passion, make her figure thin,”

    Indeed, slenderness adorns your sides.
