If a young man's homeland is not like a dense thicket,

there is no good in the Qur'an and measured recitation.

What use is a verse to you among a people

who have forsaken truth-seeking in favor of deception?

So abandon reciting the Qur'an in humiliation,

and listen in dignity to the elephant's song.

Or do you not see how the vile Romans have fought like dogs,

and pelted one another with baked-clay projectiles?

And the earth is vast; it was not so cramped for

Cain that he should fall upon Abel.

But, through the baseness of their natures, they became enamored

    of war, destruction, and slaughter.

    فصيانةُ الحُرماتِ بالتنكيل

    Under their law, only the strong have rights;

so sacred rights are safeguarded through exemplary punishment.
