فيهِ رأيتُ محاسنَ الفنِّ

I cherish the lovely woman's portrait;

In it I saw the beauties of art,

وعرفتُ روحاً كلُّها طربٌ

وعرفتُ روحاً كلُّها طربٌ

هيّامةٌ بالمجدِ والحسنِ

هيّامةٌ بالمجدِ والحسنِ

And came to know a soul that was all rapture,

Passionately enamored of glory and beauty.

في المقلتينِ بدت مزخرفةً

في المقلتينِ بدت مزخرفةً

أحلامُها كزخارفِ الجنّ

أحلامُها كزخارفِ الجنّ

In her two eyes appeared, richly adorned,

Her dreams, like the ornaments of the jinn.

وعلى المحيّا رَفرَفَت فحكت

وعلى المحيّا رَفرَفَت فحكت

عصفورةً وَلهى على غصن

عصفورةً وَلهى على غصن

And on her face they fluttered, resembling

A lovesick little bird upon a branch.
