If she speaks to me though her words are aloof
I say, her talk is full of grief and sorrow
If she looks at me steadily some day
I ask for safety though her eyes give pain
If she touches my palms in a friendly way
I say wonder-struck, how can this be?
If she is kind to me someday
I say, she brings the spring through the branches
The charmer who has no mercy for a lover
Nor feels for a longing one in passion drowned
She keeps her love for herself though my being
Is hers, and breaks troth while I keep it bound
So oft I complain of love, and she says to me
You are possessed of me, and that is perfection found
