Their speech is like melodies and tunes.

For in blessed hands and mouths

are healing for sickness and solace for sorrows.

were nothing but fruits borne by branches!

Indeed, the sick man for whom the angel grieves

is most deserving of aid and kindness.

He moves one to weep for him, as one weeps for a man

dead—and many garments are like shrouds.

One day, in a hospital, I saw a man wasted by illness,

as though he were an idol in a house of idols.

    والمرءُ في الداءِ مهدومٌ كبنيان

    An incurable disease had wasted him and shattered his frame;

and in sickness a man is demolished like a building.

His family and companions shunned him, though he had been regarded

as a brother and close friend to brothers and close friends.
