راحتيmy comfort فيin راحَتَيهاher two palms
والمُنىand hopes فيin شَفَتيهاher two lips
My comfort lies in her palms,
and hopes lie in her lips.
ليتَif only ليfor me باقةَa bouquet وردٍof roses
مُزهرٍblooming منfrom وَجنَتيهاher two cheeks
If only I had a bouquet of roses
blooming from her cheeks!
هيshe عذراءُa virgin وحبّيand my love
ظَلَّremained عُذرياًchaste لدَيهاin her presence
She is a virgin, and my love
has remained chaste in her presence.
حَرمَتنيshe deprived me of النومَsleep لمّاwhen
خَرجَتshe went out معwith جارَتيهاher two female neighbors
She robbed me of sleep when
she went out with her two neighbors.
فاستَخفَّتنيthen swept me away مَشُوقاًyearning
خِفَّةٌa lightness مِنfrom قَدَميهاher two feet
Then I, yearning, was swept away
by the lightness of her feet.
وكأنْand as though جنَّةُa garden وردٍof roses
خَلعتhad draped ثوباًa robe عليهاupon her
And it was as though a garden of roses
had draped a robe upon her.
حسِبَتهُtook it to be الرِّيحُthe wind زهراًblossoms
فانثنتso it turned شَوقاًin longing إليهاtoward her
The wind took it for blossoms,
so it turned toward her in longing,
وغدتand it began تلعبُto play فيهِin it
فتَقيهso she shields it بِيَدَيهاwith her two hands
and began to play in it,
so she shielded it with her hands.
قلتُI said ياO ريحُwind هَبينيgrant me
نفحةًa fragrant waft منfrom مِعطَفَيهاher two sides
I said, "O wind, grant me
a waft of fragrance from her sides."
