Be patient with the eyes’ vivid contrast and deep blackness.
Have patience with the houri's mesmerizing eyes,
Relief will surely come to you from a gap-toothed smile.
Relief will surely come to you from the valley.

This is the queen—so beware the sword of her vengeance.
This queen, so beware the sword of her wrath,
For love of her puts you in a precarious position.
For you are in dire straits because of your love for her.

Abandon complaints, and do not resort to arguments,
Stop complaining and seeking excuses,
For the queen turns away from arguments.
For the queen turns away from excuses.

Under absolute rule there is no plea and no debate,
When it comes to authority, no pleas or arguing,
Nor defense; so say, 'O crisis, be dispelled!'
No defending, so say: "O crisis, come undone!"

And no blame falls upon you if you surrender.
You've nothing to lose by surrendering fully.

You speak truly—so hear my tale of a secluded lady.
You spoke true, so hear me tell of a drugged one,
I loved her when she appeared to me on the stairs.
I loved when she appeared before me on the stairs.

بيضاءُ كلَّتُها في منزلٍ بَهِج
White is her countenance, white is her attire;
White was her complexion, white were her clothes,
White is her gauze canopy, in a lovely home.
White altogether in a cheerful abode.

She is like the full moon, high above the hill,
As if she were the full moon rising over the hill,
Dispelling the clouds, while she dispels sorrow from hearts.
Dispelling the clouds and grief from my heart.

And between her fingers was a branch resembling a leafy bough
Between her fingers was a branch narrating arts
From the dove, to herald relief.
Of the dove, heralding relief.

لما رَنوتُ إليها وابتسَمتُ لها
قالتshe said أتسرُقُdo you steal? منfrom حُسنيmy beauty ومنand from أرجيmy fragrance
قالت أتسرُقُ من حُسني ومن أرجي
When I gazed at her and smiled at her,
When I glanced at her and smiled,
She said, 'Do you steal from my beauty and my fragrance?'
She said: "Do you steal my beauty and fragrance?"

So I said, 'I saw my heart off when it left me,
I said: "I bade farewell to my heart when it left me,
With my eyes—and there is no flaw in the excuse.'
No crookedness in the excuse."

She said, 'Cleanse your eyes with your tears, and do not
She said: "With your tears, cleanse your gaze and do not
Look at me, for pools are not like the ocean depths.'
Look at me, for the perfidious are not like the sincere."
