All the blossoms are in your countenance,

And the soul loves them and loves you.

My love for their gatherer makes them dear,

So I breathe in their fragrance and yours.

My heart is their bouquet, and their fragrance

Is my longing, stirred by the memory of you.

The flowers are feathers from angels,

Offered to the sisters of angels.

So gladly receive my fragrance from the east wind,

And give your fragrance to a plaintive lover.

    فإذا تضوّعَ أشتهي فاكِ

    The roses bloomed in our garden;

And when they spread their fragrance, I long for your mouth.

And the star shone as we kissed,

And the waves greeted me and you.

It was a night made short by our love—

How sweet it was, and how sweet you were!

The East meets the West, smiling,

As though it were I when I meet you.

The first signs of this morning have appeared,

As though your front teeth were among them.

    Between darkness and light stands

My soul, like a bird among snares.
