She held out to me a hand like a flower of her bower.

So for a while I filled my heart with her fragrance.

    قبّلتها طمعاً بقبلةِ نحرها

    And an amulet stirred on her necklace;

I kissed it, longing for a kiss upon her throat.

She wore a sash of an evening sky,

blue, studded by darkness with its stars.

At a tryst concealed by the skirts of night,

the breeze stole through the night, a little thief of her perfume.

And the full moon among the branches is her face when

she lets some braids of her hair fall over it.

And the flowers among the branches envy her face,

so in bouquets they become the adornment of her breast.

How beautiful her tears were upon her cheek!

So they were like drops of dew upon her flowers.

Tell me, by your life, did her pearls scatter

from her eye, or her necklace, or her mouth?
