The tunic is packed tight with her two breasts,

and her waist, like me, has no luck.

My tender heart melts with sorrow,

so her coarse rump struts in pride.

So it is like the Alhambra on the day it became

    crammed with Spanish battalions.

Shall I love a maiden, when in loving her

breaking the pledge and keeping it are alike?

She sees my passion as words without meaning,

and I see it as meaning that has no words.

But when a young man loves and falls,

    neither reproach nor admonition helps.

Say to the one who never ceases to reproach me:

Beauty is sensation, and love is a glance.
