    The skittish gazelle breathed,

And her breaths were a fragrant breeze.

And her sweat-beaded cheek was a lily,

With tears of dew dripping upon it.

She went for an outing early in the morning.

And how lovely the maiden who set out early!

And her peers passed by the flowers,

And she went leaping among the fields.

And she returned with a bouquet in her hand,

And another, fresh, upon her breast.

And how many a flower her hand had plucked!

And she would scatter them for her neighbor.

My heart is like a field; she has a place to roam

Upon it, and her countenance is dazzling.

So she gathers its affections into a bouquet,

And she is unaware of what she has scattered.
