فدَىa ransom for العربيةِArabic الفُصحىclassical اللغاتُthe languages
فدَى العربيةِ الفُصحى اللغاتُ
إذاwhen نطَقَتspeak منfrom among العربِthe Arabs البناتُthe daughters
إذا نطَقَت من العربِ البناتُ
May all languages be a ransom for classical Arabic
The eloquent Arabic redeemed all languages
When the daughters of the Arabs speak.
When uttered by the Arab girls
وفيهنَّand in them الخصالُthe virtues منfrom اللواتيthose women who
وفيهنَّ الخصالُ من اللواتي
طلعنَemerged منfrom المضاربِthe encampments والضفاتand the riverbanks
طلعنَ من المضاربِ والضفات
And in them are the virtues of those women
In them are traits of those
Who emerged from the encampments and the riverbanks.
Who emerged from the tents and shores
لهنَّfor them أَعدَّتِprepared الزبّاءُal-Zabba عرشاًa throne
لهنَّ أَعدَّتِ الزبّاءُ عرشاً
فعزَّand so gained glory بهنَّthrough them دجلةُthe Tigris والفراتand the Euphrates
فعزَّ بهنَّ دجلةُ والفرات
For them al-Zabba prepared a throne,
For them the orators prepared a throne
So through them the Tigris and Euphrates gained glory.
So Tigris and Euphrates were honored through them
وشيَّدنَand they built القصورَthe palaces علىon ضفافٍriverbanks
وشيَّدنَ القصورَ على ضفافٍ
وهنَّand they المحسناتُthe virtuous women المحصناتthe chaste women
وهنَّ المحسناتُ المحصنات
And they built the palaces on riverbanks,
And they built palaces on banks
And they are virtuous, chaste women.
As they are the virtuous, the chaste
