It is portraiture that has spread the shadows

over the sun that coyly veiled herself.

Whenever I see a portrait of the beautiful woman,

I say, "Glory be to Him who created beauty!"

An image of her appeared, like a shadow

of the bough that bowed beneath the blossoms.

    فكيفَ إذا رَنت فرَمت نِبالا

    This, then, is her beauty in the stillness of a portrait;

how, then, when she gazes and shoots arrows?

Charms have gathered in a face

that shows me, in love, lawful enchantment.

I am bewildered by it, so I do not know

whether this was beauty or perfection.
