O paradise set upon a bough!

Are you anything but a temptation upon temptations?

Were it not for you, sorrow would not have taken hold of my heart.

For so often the ugly has come from the beautiful.

I have melodies from you, and from you I have ordeals.

And no dwelling brings the heart repose.

And thus, between exile and homeland,

Life has passed like a dream in drowsiness.

And beauty and love are lost in time.
