إنَّيindeed I لأَحسِبُsurely think أنthat سأُمسِيI shall reach evening مَيتاًdead
أوor سَوفَwill أُصبِحُI reach morning ثُمَّthen لاnot أُمسيI reach evening
Indeed, I think I shall be dead by evening,
Or live to see morning, then not live to see evening,
مِنfrom حُبِّlove of جاريةِslave girl of الجُنَيدِal-Junayd وبُغضِهِand hatred of him
وكِلاهُمَاand both of them قَاضٍputting an end علَىto نَفسيmy life
From love of al-Junayd’s slave girl and hatred of him.
And both spell the end of my life.
فَكِلاهُماfor both of them يُشفَىis cured بِهِthrough him سَقَمِيmy sickness
فإذاthen when تَكَلَّمَhe speaks عَادَreturns ليto me نُكسِيmy relapse
For through each of them my sickness is cured;
Then, when he speaks, my illness returns.
