Woe to the mother of the slain just above the plain at ‘Ushar,

from the clan of ‘Ujrah, whose fortune has come to ruin.

Bahz were their allies, and they were deceived

by the pact of protection—yet they were a treacherous people.

They were protectors; their loyal friend was left in need of them,

as the land feels want whenever it is deprived of rain.

Never trust a Zubali on the strength of his pledge,

when he veils himself in treachery’s robe and girds himself with it.
