God willed only to exact retribution from you, after

you had sighted me close by and on perilous ground,

and after you had been warned, and I was lit up

for your fire-seeker by the scorching firebrand’s light.

So I gave him supper, after his supper had been delayed,

with a long arrow like a thong of Thabiriyyah leather.

And I said to him, “Had you caught sight of Khalid?

So if you have indeed seen him, then lie sleepless!”
