يضحي هواه قاهراً أدبه
Alas, what shame for a youth possessed of refinement:
Oh, the shame of a young man possessed of refinement,
his passion comes to overpower his good breeding.
whose passion comes to overpower his refinement!

فيشينعرضاً صائناً أربه
He stoops to baseness, knowing it for what it is,
He commits a base deed, knowing it for what it is,
and stains his honor while safeguarding his desire.
and so sullies his honor while safeguarding his desire.

Then, when he comes to his senses, his insight returns,
Then, when he comes to his senses, his insight returns,
weeping for the prudence of which passion robbed him.
weeping over the prudence he was robbed of.
