My she-camel has covered the quarters of Mecca’s people,

save for my hope in the noble son of Hizam.

Fair of face, of Quraysh, as though he were

a crescent appearing out of dusk and darkness.

So how noble a lineage—[unclear word]—the sons of Muhammad,

and the sons of Ali—so listen well to my words—

and the sons of Hakim and al-Zubayr; and I see no

equal to them among men of Najd or Tihama.

A fair woman, a nobly born scion, bore him,

chaste; yet some mothers are a lasting affliction.
