Indeed, doom called me and led me on,

until I saw the gazelle at the door.

Ah, how beautiful he was when he reviled me, turning away,

hiding himself from me beneath the cloak.

Glory be! At her standing there, what anguish

she poured upon the heart, with grievous pains!

He turns aside from her if I seek her—

her father, who is no generous giver.

He lodged her in a palace with impregnable heights,

    guarded by gates and gatekeepers.
