I came to you from a blessed town,

traversing it at an easy trot and a brisk, long-striding pace.

I appeal through affection, kinship, and sincere

counsel, and through severing my ties to reach you.

And indeed I—by Him for whom pilgrimage is made

by the people—have trusted no generous man but you.

You have never ceased pardoning sins and setting

free a captive held fast by his crime,

until the innocent wished that they

had come to be with you in leather bonds and iron rings.
