لا خَيرَ في حُبِّ مَن يُرجى فَواضِلُهُ

لا خَيرَ في حُبِّ مَن يُرجى فَواضِلُهُ

فَاِستَمطِروا مِن قُرَيشٍ كُلَّ مُنخَدِعِ

فَاِستَمطِروا مِن قُرَيشٍ كُلَّ مُنخَدِعِ

There is no good in loving one whose bounties are merely hoped for;

There is no good in loving one whose favors are hoped for.

so draw down largesse from every guileless man of Quraysh—

So seek showers of bounty from every easily beguiled man of Quraysh.

تَخالُ فيهِ إِذا حاوَلتَهُ بَلَهاً

تَخالُ فيهِ إِذا حاوَلتَهُ بَلَهاً

عَن مالِهِ وَهوَ وافي الدينِ وَالوَرَعِ

عَن مالِهِ وَهوَ وافي الدينِ وَالوَرَعِ

one whom, when you make your bid, you take to be heedless

You think him, when you ask something of him, simple-minded

of his wealth, though he is perfect in faith and piety.

About his wealth, though he is complete in faith and piety.
