أَقولُ وَالرَكبُ قَد مَلَت عَمائِمُهُم

أَقولُ وَالرَكبُ قَد مَلَت عَمائِمُهُم

وَقَد سَقى القَومَ كَأسَ النَشوَةِ السَهَرُ

وَقَد سَقى القَومَ كَأسَ النَشوَةِ السَهَرُ

I say, while the riders' turbans have drooped,

And sleeplessness has made the company drink the cup of intoxication:

يا لَيتَ أَنّي بِأَتوابي وَراحِلَتي

يا لَيتَ أَنّي بِأَتوابي وَراحِلَتي

عَبدٌ لِأَهلِكِ طولَ الدَهرِ مُؤتَجَرُ

عَبدٌ لِأَهلِكِ طولَ الدَهرِ مُؤتَجَرُ

Oh, if only I, with my garments and my mount,

Were a hired slave to your family for all time.

إِن كانَ ذا قَدَراً يُؤتيكِ نافِلَةً

إِن كانَ ذا قَدَراً يُؤتيكِ نافِلَةً

وَسَنّا وَيُحرِمُنا ما أَنصَفَ القَدَرُ

وَسَنّا وَيُحرِمُنا ما أَنصَفَ القَدَرُ

If this is fate, granting you an extra gift of

Slumber and denying it to us, fate has not been fair.

جِنِيَّةٌ أَولَها جِنٌّ يُعَلِّمُها

جِنِيَّةٌ أَولَها جِنٌّ يُعَلِّمُها

رَميَ القُلوبِ بِقَوسٍ مالَها وَتَرُ

رَميَ القُلوبِ بِقَوسٍ مالَها وَتَرُ

She is a female jinn, or has a jinn who teaches her

To shoot at hearts with a bow that has no string.
