لاdo not تغبطenvy المجدَبthe barren one فيin علمهhis knowledge
لا تغبط المجدَب في علمه
وإنand even if رأيتَyou see الخِصبَabundance فيin حالِهhis circumstances
وإن رأيتَ الخِصبَ في حالِه
Do not envy one whose knowledge is barren,
Do not envy the knowledgeable in his knowledge,
even if you see abundance in his circumstances.
Even if you see prosperity in his state.
إنindeed الذيwhat ضيّعhe squandered منof نفسهhimself
إن الذي ضيّع من نفسه
فوقgreater than الذيwhat ضمرdwindled منof مالِهhis wealth
فوق الذي ضمر من مالِه
Indeed, what he has squandered of himself
For he who wastes his soul,
is greater than what has dwindled of his wealth.
Is worse than he who hoards his wealth.
