جاءhe came وفيand in يسارهhis left hand
جاء وفي يساره
قوسٌa bow وفيand in اليمنىthe right hand قدحa goblet
قوسٌ وفي اليمنى قدح
He came, and in his left hand
He came, in his left hand a bow
Was a bow, and in his right a goblet.
In his right, a chalice
كأنهas though he were شمسٌa sun بدَتappeared
كأنه شمسٌ بدَت
وحولهاand around it قوسُbow قُزحrainbow (with قوس)
وحولها قوسُ قُزح
He was like a sun that had appeared,
As though a sun had risen
With a rainbow around it.
With a rainbow all around
ياO لائميyou who blame me فيfor حبّهloving him
يا لائمي في حبّه
ماnot كلُّevery منone who لامblamed نَصَحgave sincere counsel
ما كلُّ من لام نَصَح
O you who blame me for loving him,
Oh you who blame me for loving him
Not everyone who blames gives sincere counsel.
Not all who blame give good advice
