قَسَمَhe divided الأُترُجَّthe citrons فِينَاamong us
مَلِكٌa king عَدلُjust اليَدَينِboth hands
He shared the citrons among us—
The generous one divided among us
A king, fair with both hands.
A just king with even hands
لَمnot تَكُنwas قِسمَةًa division ضِيزَىunfair
بَينَbetween أَصحَابِيmy companions وَبَينِيand between me
It was no unfair division
It was no unfair division
Between my companions and me,
Between my friends and me
إِذfor حَبَاhe favored فَرداًone person بَفَردٍwith one
وَحَبَانِيand he favored me بأثنَثَينِwith two
For he favored each person with one,
When he granted each one by one
And favored me with two.
And granted me twofold
هَكَذَاthus العَدلُjustice فَحَظَّيso my share
مِثلُequal to حَظِّthe share of الأُنثيينِthe two females
Such is justice, so my share
Thus is justice, my share
Equals the share of two females.
Is like the share of two females
