    Peridot, with gold above it,

refined, though no fire has melted it.

As though from his slumber had risen

a drowsy one, or one worn down by dejection.

And so sweet is it to the nose that

    musk scatters from its midst.

It shares time's nature, for it is night,

visited by a yellow hue from its dawn.

So the beginning of its formation is night,

and the end of its formation is day.

A creator fashioned it wondrously in the gardens,

who has mastery over created form.
