ومُدِلٍّand one proud بِسَقيِهِof his serving drink يتلَقَّىwelcomes
ومُدِلٍّ بِسَقيِهِ يتلَقَّى
نُدَماهhis drinking companions بِسَطوَةٍwith force واقتدارِand authority
نُدَماه بِسَطوَةٍ واقتدارِ
And a cupbearer, proud of the drink he pours, receives
And one, proud of his wine-serving, welcomes
I drank when he bid me, though home was no longer my stead
his boon companions with commanding might.
His drinking companions with force and authority.
With might and command did he proffer the wine that I quaffed
فمتىso whenever أسألI ask الرجوعَto return لداريto my home
فمتى أسأل الرجوعَ لداري
قالhe said ليto me اشربdrink فلستfor you are not فيin وقتِa time for دارِhome
قال لي اشرب فلست في وقتِ دارِ
Whenever I ask to return to my home,
Whenever I ask to return to my home,
When shall I ask to return to the home that has fled?
he tells me, “Drink—you are not at an hour for home.”
He tells me, “Drink—this is no time for you to go home.”
He said “Drink!” - for the time was not right to depart
