At midmorning they made their caravan kneel in the valley of acacias.

Then at nightfall they led it to water—what a watering!

How noble a valley it is, where the beloved alighted,

Among laurel, willow, and mulberry trees.

O valley from which the caravan journeyed away,

By God, tell me where the caravan went, O valley.

Did they alight at al-Hima, or turn toward al-Liwa?

Or have they already left you, sworn to meet me?

They departed and, through their parting, bequeathed to my body

Sickness, and through separation tore my vitals apart.
