Why has my beloved forgotten me—
My beloved has forgotten me,
the one with languid, kohl-lined eyes?
The one with kohl-lined eyes.

My yearning has lasted long in his absence,
My yearning for him from afar persists,
and a fire blazes within my breast.
And its fire rages within.

And sleep has forsaken my eyelids;
Sleep has deserted my eyelids
I spend my whole night tossing restlessly.
Throughout the long, restless night.

If my cherished beloved were gentle with me,
If he would show me some mercy,
he would grace me with a meeting.
Beauty would adorn our meeting.

What can possibly be done?

there is none like my first beloved.
None compares to my first love.
