Search my heart and see: has anyone dwelt within it

But you, O my heart's desire, O its masters?

No, by your beauty, which nothing can rival,

None but its own have dwelt there, O people of love.

Your dead one—can anyone among mankind but you revive him?

None knows love except one who suffers it.

I have offered my soul for you—where is its buyer?

Whoever seeks something precious gives freely, paying dearly for it.

Have mercy on the love-stricken one for what he endures

From a watcher who bars him from what he hopes for,

Or a reproacher who hurts him for loving the one he seeks.

For love of my all, I would ransom him with absolutely everything.

How delightful his reproach, and how sweet his unjust treatment!

I have put my hope in God for myself—none who hopes in Him is disappointed—

That He hasten the fulfillment of my wishes in all I seek.

Then may God bless the Guide and his family,

Then his companions, his [unclear term], and his loyal followers,

As long as a caravan travels by night to Yathrib with its chanting camel-driver.
