يا قلب يا شرّ القلوب مهلا

يا قلب يا شرّ القلوب مهلا

لا تحسب أنك دائماً ستسلا

لا تحسب أنك دائماً ستسلا

O heart, O worst of hearts, take it slowly!

O heart, O worst of hearts, wait!

Do not think you will always be carefree,

Do not think you will always be at ease

أو تجعلنك يا غبي مخلا

أو تجعلنك يا غبي مخلا

أو ليس يأتيك المنون أصلا

أو ليس يأتيك المنون أصلا

or deem yourself, fool, left alone,

Or make you, O fool, deviate

or that death will not come to you at all.

Or will death not come to you at all?

هيهات هذا اعتقاد فاسد

هيهات هذا اعتقاد فاسد

فكيف تنكر شي وله تشاهد

فكيف تنكر شي وله تشاهد

Far from it! This belief is corrupt.

Far from it, this is a corrupt belief

How, then, can you deny something you witness?

How can you deny what you witness?

فكم ترى بالموت ربّ واحد

فكم ترى بالموت ربّ واحد

صرع ولا أفدى بمال وأهلا

صرع ولا أفدى بمال وأهلا

How many a one you see, by death

How many lords did you see by death

struck down, not ransomed by wealth or family.

Were killed and money did not avail them at all

سبحان من يقدر على هدانا

سبحان من يقدر على هدانا

يعيدنا ثاني كما بدانا

يعيدنا ثاني كما بدانا

Glory to Him who has power to guide us,

Glory to Him who can guide us

who restores us again, as He first created us.

And returns us as He originated us

فمنه دانا ثم به دوانا

فمنه دانا ثم به دوانا

كلا فلا ربّ سواه كلا

كلا فلا ربّ سواه كلا

From Him comes our sickness; then through Him, our cure.

From Him we knew and to Him we will return

No! There is no Lord besides Him—no!

No, there is no lord but Him, no!

من هاهنا صار اللبيب حائر

من هاهنا صار اللبيب حائر

وعمى الأبصار والبصائر

وعمى الأبصار والبصائر

From this, the wise man becomes bewildered,

And the sights and insights were blinded

and eyes and inner sight grow blind;

And no power remained for every Able

ولا بقى قدره لكل قادر

ولا بقى قدره لكل قادر

الا بتوفيق الإله الأعلا

الا بتوفيق الإله الأعلا

and none with power retains any power,

Except by the guidance of the Most High God

except through the aid of God Most High.

The names contradicting is an amazing matter

تضادد الأسماء أمر مخرق

تضادد الأسماء أمر مخرق

فهو المعزّ المخذل الموفق

فهو المعزّ المخذل الموفق

The opposition of the Names is a bewildering matter:

He is the Honorer, the Abaser, the Guide

for He bestows honor, withholds aid, and grants success.

Say God then adhere and realize

اللَه قل ثم استقم وحقق

اللَه قل ثم استقم وحقق

توحيده أصل لكل أصلا

توحيده أصل لكل أصلا

Say 'God'; then be steadfast and affirm

His oneness is the origin of every origin

His oneness, the root of every root.

And do not be ignorant of the knowledge of causes

ولا تكن جاهل بعلم الاسباب

ولا تكن جاهل بعلم الاسباب

توّاب هو لكن لكل من تاب

توّاب هو لكن لكل من تاب

And do not be ignorant of the knowledge of causes:

He is the Accepter of Repentance but accepts all who repent

He accepts repentance, but only from those who repent;

The Guide but guides all who turn

موفق لكن لكلّ من ناب

موفق لكن لكلّ من ناب

فاجهد تكن للفضل منه أهلا

فاجهد تكن للفضل منه أهلا

He grants success, but only to those who turn back.

So strive to be worthy of His grace

So strive, and you will be worthy of His bounty.

These causes with the Causer

فهذه الأسباب بالمسبب

فهذه الأسباب بالمسبب

مؤثره في كل أمر موجب

مؤثره في كل أمر موجب

For these causes, through the Causer,

Influencing every affirmative matter

are effective in every necessary matter.

Realize and do not lean on it lest you waste away

حقق ولا تركن له فتترب

حقق ولا تركن له فتترب

نفسك وفي نار الجحيم تصلى

نفسك وفي نار الجحيم تصلى

Affirm this, and do not rely on it, lest destitution befall

Yourself and in Hellfire you end up

your soul, and you burn in the fire of Hell.
