Indeed, regret over things past,

Lamenting what is past,

and thought about things yet to come,

And thinking of what's to come,

صارت بها أوقاتنا متلاشيه

صارت بها أوقاتنا متلاشيه

لِلّه درّ أهل القلوب الخاليه

لِلّه درّ أهل القلوب الخاليه

have made our hours fade away.

Have made our time vanish.

God bless those whose hearts are empty

Praise be to God, Lord of empty hearts,

عما سوى معبودها الساليه

عما سوى معبودها الساليه

هذا هو الملك الصحيح

هذا هو الملك الصحيح

of all but the One they worship, forgetful of all else.

Turned only to their worshipped Eternal.

This is true sovereignty,

This is true kingship,

ومرهم القلب الجريح

ومرهم القلب الجريح

صاحبه أبدا مستريح

صاحبه أبدا مستريح

and the balm for the wounded heart.

And balm for the wounded heart.

Its possessor is forever at ease.

With it one is ever serene,

بل هذه لا شك جنه ثانيه

بل هذه لا شك جنه ثانيه

قد عجلت لأهل القلوب الصافيه

قد عجلت لأهل القلوب الصافيه

Rather, this is undoubtedly a second paradise,

Indeed this is a second paradise,

already granted in advance to those with pure hearts.

Swiftly gained by pure hearts.

وكلها حضرت إذا قدلك حضور

وكلها حضرت إذا قدلك حضور

وهي حرم إن كان لك حرمه ونور

وهي حرم إن كان لك حرمه ونور

And all of it is present, if you have presence of heart.

All are present when You are present,

And it is a sanctuary, if you have sanctity and light.

A sanctuary, if You are its sanctuary and light.

ما ظلمة تبقى مع شمس ونور

ما ظلمة تبقى مع شمس ونور

أعنى بها شمس اليقين الباهيه

أعنى بها شمس اليقين الباهيه

No darkness remains in the presence of sun and light.

No darkness remains with sun and light.

By it I mean the radiant sun of certainty,

I mean by this the brilliant sun of certainty,

إذا بدت في أبراجها العاليه

إذا بدت في أبراجها العاليه

من كان له قلب مشوق

من كان له قلب مشوق

when it appears in its lofty celestial mansions.

When it rises in its high celestial spheres.

Whoever has a yearning heart,

Whose heart yearns,

وعنده طرب وتوق

وعنده طرب وتوق

فهذه ثمره وذوق

فهذه ثمره وذوق

and within him are rapture and longing—

And holds passion and longing,

then this is fruit and savor.

This is the fruit and taste,

أشجارها لأربابها متدانيه

أشجارها لأربابها متدانيه

تبدى بأنواع الثمار الحاليه

تبدى بأنواع الثمار الحاليه

Its trees draw near to their masters,

Of trees brought near for their keepers,

displaying varieties of sweet fruit.

Displaying their timely fruits.

ما ليلة القدر التي قد عظمت

ما ليلة القدر التي قد عظمت

أو جنة الفردوس إذ هي زخرفت

أو جنة الفردوس إذ هي زخرفت

What is the Night of Decree, so greatly exalted,

What night of destiny so extolled?

or the Garden of Firdaws, when adorned,

Or Paradise of Eden, however adorned,

في جنب صفو أهل اليقين إذا انجلت

في جنب صفو أهل اليقين إذا انجلت

عنهم حجابات البعاد البينه

عنهم حجابات البعاد البينه

beside the serenity of the people of certainty, when lifted

Compared to the clarity of the certain,

from them are the evident veils of separation,

When veils of separation dropped from them,

وصحت الرؤية لهم والأمنيه

وصحت الرؤية لهم والأمنيه

فيا سكارى الذنوب

فيا سكارى الذنوب

and their vision is confirmed and their wish fulfilled?

And visions and hopes were fulfilled?

So, O you drunk on sins,

O drunk with sins,

ويا أسارى العيوب

ويا أسارى العيوب

صفوا لمولاها القلوب

صفوا لمولاها القلوب

and O captives of faults,

O chained by faults,

purify your hearts for their Lord.

Purify your hearts for their Lord.

يا حسرتي أين القلوب الواعيه

يا حسرتي أين القلوب الواعيه

ليس القلوب النائيه كالدانيه

ليس القلوب النائيه كالدانيه

Oh, my sorrow! Where are the mindful hearts?

Would that hearts awake

Far-off hearts are not like those that are near.

Knew the close are not as the distant.
