If your beauty is absent from me,

Then your image stands [before my eyes].

O my master, how are you?

May God never change your state.

By the sanctity of the pledge, I beseech you:

Do not deny me union with you.

Your arrows have indeed struck me,

From the languid glance of your wide eyes.

By God, O you of slender figure,

Do not prolong estrangement and rejection.

Separation from you has left me love-stricken,

And my eyes are kept sleepless.

    The breast-bud, O radiant-cheeked one,

Has ripped the neckline of your robe.

By God, were it not for [shyness before you],

I would reveal my hidden love to you.

    O you of golden breastbones,

I am melting away from separation.

O you who surpass the budding-breasted maidens,

Their gazelle and their Zaynabs alike.

If you are absent, O sweet one,

Then remembrance of you keeps me company.

So my soul is a sacrifice for you,

And my body and wealth are yours.

O you whose eye-corners are dark with kohl,

    When shall we meet?

So do not prolong my separation.

I have melted away from what I endure.

    When will my burning cease?

He sips what is sweet to taste.

And I say to him, "What has come over you,

That you prolong forsaking me? What ails you?"

By God, if your estrangement ends,

And I kiss your cheek and lips,

And taste your coolness and your heat,

And clasp your chest and throat—

Move your buckle at your waist.

And I sip your saliva and your wine,

And say, "O sweet one, I am perishing,"

And I match you in your qualities.
