ما عندي من لوم عذالي

ما المشغول في الحبّ كالخالي

ما المشغول في الحبّ كالخالي

I heed none of my reproachers’ blame.

I have no blame for my tormentor

One engrossed in love is not like one free of it.

No one is as preoccupied with love as I

شا أعشق لي معزا غالي

شا أعشق لي معزا غالي

وأرتقي لي لمرتقى عالي

وأرتقي لي لمرتقى عالي

I shall love a cherished, precious beloved.

I wish to love a precious beloved

And ascend to a lofty height.

And ascend to a high pinnacle

شا فخر لي بفخر محبوبي

شا فخر لي بفخر محبوبي

وأعطاني في الحبّ مطلوبي

وأعطاني في الحبّ مطلوبي

I shall take pride in my beloved’s glory.

I wish to boast of the pride of my beloved

And he granted me what I sought in love.

And be given what I desire in love

ما عاشق شرب كمشروبي

ما عاشق شرب كمشروبي

والعشقه ما تصلح إلا لي

والعشقه ما تصلح إلا لي

No lover has drunk a draught like mine.

No lover has drunk as I have drunk

And passionate love befits none but me.

And his love suits no one but me

كم ربي أباد لي أعدا

كم ربي أباد لي أعدا

وأعطاني وكم إليّ أسدا

وأعطاني وكم إليّ أسدا

How many enemies my Lord has destroyed for me!

How many enemies has my Lord destroyed for me

And he has given to me—how much he has bestowed upon me!

And given me support, how much aid He has given me

قالوا لي أبو السعود ودّا

قالوا لي أبو السعود ودّا

قلت أهلك حاله مع المال

قلت أهلك حاله مع المال

They told me, ‘Abu al-Suʿud has fallen in love.’

They said to me, Abu Saud wishes you well

I said, ‘He has ruined his state along with his wealth.’

I said, may your family perish with wealth
