المسلباتthe heart-stealers المذهباتthe dispellers of الأحزانsorrows

Of stolen glances, gilded misery
لكنbut ظنيmy belief عموشdim-sighted

حبه وهو فينا قليل الاحسان
But, I think, dim-sighted
Yet I suppose, dim-witted me
Is his love; and he shows us little kindness.
His love for me is cruelty

سلطانsovereign of قلبيmy heart ماnot كفاهsufficed him سلطانsovereignty

An army above armies,
An army over armies
Sovereign of my heart—sovereignty did not suffice him.
