How have things been since we left?
How are you after we parted
May God never leave us desolate without you, O our moon.
May Allah not make you lonely, our moon

You who mimics the lute
When you sway or bend.

Rather, you who contains all melody
O you who embody every aspect of beauty.

لولاwere it not for ضرائرpressing needs لناof ours
وحقّand by the honor of راسكyour head قطّever ماnot افترقناwe parted
Were it not for our pressing needs,
If not for our circumstances
And by your head, we would never have parted.
By your head we would have never parted

ولاand do not تواخذناblame us بماfor what فعلناwe did
So make room for our excuse,
So make excuses for us
And do not blame us for what we have done.
And do not blame us for what we did
