How can a son of Adam find solace, or cherish hopes?
As he watches his days, no state ever runs its course

What hope has built, the appointed hours of death must destroy.

Since news reached us of the moon's daughter, crown of the abdāl,

The lions of the forest have vanished from us and left the cubs forlorn.

No prophet or messenger has attained for himself what he attained.
I ask God, by his standing, for His pardon—[unclear ending: 'that we ceased'].
