O stranger of al-Naqa, may rain bless those dwellings.

Hail those abodes, whose watering places are sweet.

Where, on their hills, many a slender beauty dwells.

The abode has grown splendid with ladies wearing jewels and anklets.

    مهذبات الترائب داجيات الجواثل

    Radiant of face, with languid, wide eyes;

Delicate of bosom, with dark, luxuriant tresses.

Many a night reunited me with one of lovely qualities.

Then nighttime talk was sweet that night, and the reproachers were gone.

And the obstinate watcher was heedless of my affair.

And the wine was sweet, and the one I beheld was with me, face to face.

And the lute strings rang out, and there was joy in companionship.

And of the fragrant flowers, some were gathered, and some were withered.

Then the heavenly sphere turned, and I found myself departing from all that.

How many distances stand between us, how many stages of travel!

O languid-eyed one, seek news of me and inquire.

Do not think I am unaware of what you have done before.

If you doubt it, then agonizing longing is proof.

Do you not see the sleepless eye? Do you not see the flowing tears?

Do you not see us, thin of body, wasted by sorrow?

How long shall I hope for relief, O sweet one? How long shall I strive?

Lord of lords, O granter of every hopeful one's wish,

Bestow a breath of grace that swiftly dispels sorrow through nearness.

For your bounty is vast, and your generosity all-embracing.

Then send blessings and peace, at forenoon and in the late afternoons.
