When he reached the dwellings in Nuʿman’s acacia valley,

and alighted there—perhaps my dear ones dwell there—

O dear driver of the full-grown camels, gently set down the travelers’ litters.

What you seek has been attained, and rejection and estrangement have ceased.

And God has breaths of grace that dispel worry and affliction.

And in life are hours that may be worth a whole lifetime.

And time has sudden turns that surprise you with what you desire.

For many a withered bough has put forth leaves and quivered, lush with moisture.

Bashshar’s gardens glittered, their radiance aglow with lights.

May God guard their radiance and the moons within them.

Longing for them has worn me thin; may a breath of grace come from the Almighty.

May a full reunion come about, and may we forget worry and sorrows.

And nothing is farther from the desired goal than despair.

And the helpless man is more wretched and dogged by destitution.

And among people none is more successful or happier than the patient.

So be a valiant lion, for abasement ends in deprivation.
