My two friends, a great, tormenting longing is within me.

Will I then reach my hoped-for goal on noble mounts?

And do not mention to me the reproach of a talebearer and a censurer.

For the carefree of heart is not like the distraught, love-stricken one.

For my sleep has shunned me, and love's anguish has hurt me.

So, by God, hasten the march, you who drive my caravan!

For I have a thirst that water cannot quench,

For the green courtyard and the spacious dwelling.

And a longing that melts fire with but some of its heat,

For the shining white brow and the sweet disposition.

And my longing for the moon of the caliphate has remained

Fresh, through far separation and nearness alike.

Peace upon him abundant in virtues and hospitality,

And upon him of fair conduct, the valiant lord.

    And I, though the dwellings lie far away, am present;

And though you are absent from my sight, you are not absent from my heart.

And though deprivation has kept union with you far from me,

And I have been unable to draw near, my caravan may turn back.

So travel, too, in God's safety and protection,

And with the blessed, supremely mighty, clamorous army,

And with keen Mashrafi swords and with spears,

In the hands of armored warriors who ride lean, noble steeds.

Awe from the Lord of heaven casts its shade over you,

And your foe is attended by terror from God.

    فبالحرب يطفي سيدي لاعج الحرب

    So kindle war's fire—he will quench its blaze;

For through war my lord quenches war's searing heat.

For you follow a sound faith from God,

And God's help is enough for you—what excellent support!

Your radiant creed and your pious doctrine

Come from the shining white Sunna, far from reproach.

And their doctrine is crammed with error and religious innovation.

And how can truthful speech compare with fabricated lies?

And you are the one endowed with good character and chastity,

Far from swaggering pride, far from self-conceit.

And like plenty for the people in an ash-gray year of drought.

And there is no goodness but God's inborn endowment, O youth.

And how can a man's acquired merit compare with the Lord's inborn gift?

And you are upheld against every adversary,

By a hidden, freely bestowed mystery from the One of immense bounty.

So die, all of you, in your rage, O envious one!

For you cannot climb to lofty ranks through effort.

Like a flock of sheep frightened by a lion's roar,

So some clamber over others in the intensity of their fear.

And bowing in humiliation before your stroke with the keen sword.

In a short while, you have judged them as you wish,

Through capture, swift killing, and plunder.

So they cannot give a noun either nominative or accusative case.

You have routed, and how many fortresses you have seized by force!

So you have apportioned your bright, beautiful days:

In one hour you give, and in another you take captives.

For neither the sea nor the winds sent forth with their gusts

Match your bounty, nor do the clouds pouring down rain.

Nor Antar in valor, nor Caesar's might,

Nor Khaqan's might can match your might in victory.

And like the pivot in sovereignty joined to good fortune.

And fear no worry, and fear no distress.

Upon Ahmad, in unbroken succession, with his family and companions.
