ياO قلبheart لاdo not تسأمgrow weary لماof what تعانيهyou endure it
يا قلب لا تسأم لما تعانيه
فيin المحبهlove أوor لماof what تقاسيهyou suffer it
في المحبه أو لما تقاسيه
O heart, do not grow weary of what you endure
O heart, do not grow weary of what you suffer
in love, or of what you suffer.
In love, or what you endure,
منwhoever لاdoes not يذوقtaste المرّbitterness منfrom مداويهhis healer
من لا يذوق المرّ من مداويه
يمرضfalls ill ولاand does not يلقىfind طبيبa physician يشفيهheals him
يمرض ولا يلقى طبيب يشفيه
Whoever does not taste bitterness from his healer
He who does not taste the bitter of its remedies
falls ill and finds no physician to heal him.
Falls sick and finds no doctor to heal him.
لكyours الهناbliss انif حلّdwells فيكwithin you ذرهa speck
لك الهنا ان حلّ فيك ذره
منof حبهمtheir love أوor لاحflashes forth منكfrom you خطرهa passing thought
من حبهم أو لاح منك خطره
Bliss is yours if there dwells within you a speck
If in you rests a speck of love for them
of their love, or a passing thought flashes forth from you.
Or a ray flashes from you,
فيin ذكرهمremembering them ماhow أعظمgreat المسرّهthe joy
في ذكرهم ما أعظم المسرّه
طوبىblessedness لقلبfor a heart حلّdwells حبهمtheir love فيهwithin it
طوبى لقلب حلّ حبهم فيه
In remembering them, how great the joy!
How great the bliss in remembering them!
Blessed is a heart in which their love dwells.
Happy the heart in which their love dwells.
ماhow أعذبsweet التعذيبthe torment انif رضونيthey accept me
ما أعذب التعذيب ان رضوني
عبداًa slave لهمto them رقاin bondage وانand even if جفونيthey spurn me
عبداً لهم رقا وان جفوني
How sweet the torment, if they accept me
How sweet the torment, if they are pleased with me
as their slave in bondage, even if they spurn me!
As their abject slave, even if they spurn me!
فالويلthen woe كلّall الويلthe woe يعتقونيthey set me free
فالويل كلّ الويل يعتقوني
مولىmaster المواليof the masters منthe one who همthey مواليهhis masters
مولى الموالي من هم مواليه
Then woe, utter woe, if they set me free!
So curses betide whoever they would ransom me from!
Master of masters is he whose masters they are.
The Master of masters from those who owe me loyalty.
